EMUI_ EuroMed University

The EMUI_ EuroMed University was founded in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid host to our Spain Campus, and an EU, Maghreb and Middle East University Consortium. Officially launched in Malta on October 16th 2007, the events were hosted at the Mediterranean Conference Centre (Valletta), with institutional support from the Government of the Republic and the Embassy of Spain.

As a public institution, with its own legal personality, the EMUI is a member of the Anna Lindh Foundation EUROMED, networks Malta, Spain and Italy. The scientific journal Nomads, Mediterrranean Perspectives, official publication of the EMUI_ EuroMed University, is created.

The EMUI, together with the institutions of its Consortium, pursues specific objectives, uninterrupted since its founding in 2007. It offers unique programs that, being complementary, are clearly differentiated from those pursued and offered by existing EuroMed Universities and other centers, public and private, with EuroMed programs. We thus guarantee a nece ssary dialogue with the disparity for reasons of culture, ethnicity, language or vulnerability. The priority lines of the EMUI are based on Equality and Human Rights, respecting the gender perspective and the valuable potential represented by youth.

The EMUI begins its activities with the sponsorship of the Global Institute for Strategic Economic Development Foundation (GISED), with part of its headquarters in 35, Sir Luigi Preziozi Square (Floriana, 1154 Malta) for the official headquarters of the EMUI. The most relevant actions were the provision of six scholarships per year for research projects in Malta, on issues of Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean, and the signing of bilateral agreements with various universities in the EuroMed Area.

Parallel and from the Permanent International Seminar Europa-Fin-de-Siècle: Thought and Culture (1998) the Complutense Research Group Theoria, Critical Project of Social and Legal Sciences (940052) was created in 2004, which programs each year different own degrees (Diploma, Expert and Masters) tending to establish a Record of Passages and Maps in the European Culture and Knowledge

On the basis of this experience, the UCM approved on December 16, 2009, the creation of the EuroMediterranean University Institute (EMUI), which establishes its headquarters in the Historic Building of San Bernardo, in accordance with its Statutes. The scientific publication Nomads, Critical Journal of Social and Legal Sciences, founded in 1999, becomes the official publication of the EMUI

In 2010 the EMUI Malta becomes an International Teaching and Research Platform under the name of EMUI_ EuroMed University, establishing its headquarters in Italy (Ex Monastero degli Olivetani Lecce, Università del Salento). The same year the preparatory commission of the II Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Higher Education and Scientific Research, in a meeting held in Benidorm under the Spanish Presidency of the EU, agreed to include in the agenda the recognition of the EMUI as Euro-Mediterranean South-University.
